It gets worn for years. It is seen at dinners, on trains, in photographs, by hundreds of people who never came near your store. Someone admires the coat and asks where it is from. The answer is a half-remembered name, a brand they cannot spell, a woven label they were too polite to check. That is the whole of your presence in the moment a stranger actually wants to buy.
